dc.description.abstract The main aim and objective of this dissertation is to investigate the causes of project delay of building industry and their remedial measures in Rwanda. Actually the arrangement of this project work in this book is divided into six major groups such as introduction, literature review, materials and methods and results, discussion of results and conclusion and recommendations. All the chapters and other main points in this book are numbered to help those who may need to use it, to easily reach an interesting section by omitting others. Abandoned construction projects can pose considerable challenges both to client, contractors and the economy at large. Using both primary and secondary sources of data, the research determines the causes and effects of abandonment of construction projects in Rwanda. The research obtains data on some abandoned projects, cutting across five cities. This research was conducted to investigate the problems. Firstly the issues surrounding the problem and existing literature on the causes of abandonment of cnstruction projects are reviewed. Then, potential causes of abandonment of cnstruction projects are also reviewed and summarized into 41 items to be rated in an industry wide questionnaire survey. The questionnaire also includes an open-ended question on suggestions to solve abandonment of construction projects.350 questionnaire responses were received. The research recommends that fund related causative factors of abandonment (adequate funding/capital budgeting) be given due consideration at the conceptual stage of projects; this will invariably minimize incidence of abandonment. en_US
