Abstract:
The study conducted aims to assess the contribution of Community Groups to the local people’s welfare in Ngoma District. A case of selected Isibo in Sake Sector. The study’s objectives were to assess the activities of ISIBO for the sake of achieving good governance in Sake sector, to assess the contribution of ISIBO to the development of the local community in Sake sector, and to find out the challenges that hamper ISIBO to attain its objectives effectively and efficiently. The study employed the descriptive research design and Yamane formula was used in calculating the sample size, and purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used in sampling. Questionnaires, interviews, and documentation were used in data collection while descriptive statistical analysis and thematic analysis were used in data analysis. the study finds that Isibo activities contributes to the good government achievement by engaging the communities with the local authorities to advocates for community needs and interest. The study also finds that isibo creates employment opportunities, reduce the gender-based violence and promotes social cohesion, trust and connect among community members. The study later finds the challenges that hamper Isibo to attain its objectives as financial constraints and internal conflicts and leadership issues. The study recommends that training and capacity building could be introduced and mechanism of conflicts resolutions should be initiated.
