THE EXPERIENCES OF SUDANESE REFUGEE WOMEN IN LIBYA

Abstract

This study discusses the experiences of Sudanese refugee Women in Libya., shedding light on the multifaceted challenges and resilience they exhibit throughout their arduous journey. The study draws on qualitative research methods to navigate the intricate complexities of their lives. The research underscores the harsh realities faced by Sudanese refugee women in Libya, where they grapple with profound socio-economic, political, and cultural obstacles. The analysis reveals that these women are exposed to vulnerabilities such as exploitation, human trafficking, gender-based violence, and discrimination, all within the context of a fragile and unstable state. Despite these formidable challenges, the study uncovers the remarkable resilience and resourcefulness of female Sudanese refugees. They form strong social networks, providing mutual support and solidarity. Additionally, they engage in various coping mechanisms, including informal entrepreneurship, skills development, and education, to enhance their prospects for a better future. Moreover, the research highlights the role of non-governmental organizations and grassroots initiatives in providing critical assistance to female Sudanese refugees, promoting empowerment and community cohesion. Policy implications are discussed, emphasizing the importance of gender-sensitive approaches and international cooperation to address the plight of these refugees effectively.
