CONTRIBUTION OF NGOs ACTIVITIES ON SOCIO – ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF ITS BENEFICIARIES IN GASABO DISTRICT CASE OF HOPE INTERNATIONAL (2019-2022)

dc.description.abstract The research purpose was to examine the contribution of NGOs activities on socio – economic development of its beneficiaries in Gasabo District, case study: Hope International (2019-2022). The specific objectives of the study are to assess the NGOs activities for on the socio – economic development of its beneficiaries, to analyse the socio-economic development activities of NGOs beneficiaries and to identify the relationship between Hope International activities and the role of income generated by its beneficiaries on socio-economic development. The study used a descriptive research design in which qualitative were utilized. Target population of the study is 260,155 respondents that is households (see sample size calculation with at least one beneficiary of Hope International Village Savings and Loans groups program., sample size is 100 People in Hope International by selected convenience sampling. The researcher distributed the questionnaires by using self-administered structured questionnaires and the data collected. The data was processed by using a statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 22.0 was used to analyze the data collected through the questionnaire. The relationship between variables was established by use correlation model. The findings based on objectives which the capacity of the beneficiaries to cover basic expenditure and need (such as food, clothing, transport, education and housing) has been improved over the program/project period. The research findings on the socio economic development status of NGO’s beneficiaries in Gasabo District indicate that there have been progressive changes in living standards of beneficiaries for the whole period of study. The NGO’s beneficiaries who owned house have respectively 15%, 39%, 67% and 98% of total respondents for 2019-2022. When it comes to the payment of mutual health contributions, the results indicated that 25% have done so in 2019 and 2020 is represented by 54% of respondents, 78% in 2021 and finally 100%. Only 9% of total respondents owned business in 2019 and the number was increased to 23% in 2020. The year 2021 the number of businesses has increased to 29% while 2022 is represented by 74%. Beneficiaries who were able to create jobs in 2019 were 2% and 11% in 2020. The programs have brought positive contribution to diversification of income and employment. Strong focus on the social sectors is often an important step towards a poor orientation. Increases in employment and labor productivity provide the main link between economic growth and sustainability of livelihoods. en_US
