dc.description.abstract This study, titled "Impact of Performance Contracts (Imihigo) on Socio-Economic Development of Rwanda: A Case Study of Shyogwe Sector in Muhanga District (2018 - 2024)," aims to evaluate the influence of Imihigo on socio-economic development in the Shyogwe Sector and to identify the challenges faced during its implementation at the local level. Adopting a mixed- methods approach, the research involved a sample size of 100 respondents selected through simple random sampling, utilizing interviews, questionnaires, document analysis, and observations for data collection. The analysis revealed significant positive impacts of Imihigo, including increased employment opportunities, improved access to essential services, accelerated local infrastructure development, enhanced quality of life, increased community participation in development projects, better resource allocation in local government, and improved educational standards. However, challenges such as limited funding, inadequate community engagement, poor infrastructure, political interference, insufficient monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, limited public awareness, and competing priorities within local government were also identified. Based on these findings, recommendations were proposed to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of Imihigo initiatives in the Shyogwe Sector. en_US
