Abstract:
This study explores the impact of urbanization on promoting sustainable development in
the Gisozi sector, Rwanda, over the period 2020-2024. As urban areas expand rapidly, the
Gisozi sector has undergone significant transformation in terms of infrastructure, housing,
and service provision. The research examines how urbanization influence sustainable
development sustainable development, including economic growth, social equity, and
environmental protection, The study concludes by highlighting policy recommendations to
balance urban growth with sustainability goals, emphasizing the need for inclusive urban
planning, efficient resource use, and strategies to mitigate environmental degradation.
These findings provide insights into how rapidly urbanizing areas can align with
Rwanda’s broader sustainable development objective. Urbanization, while often
associated with economic growth and social development, presents both opportunities and
challenges in the pursuit of sustainable development. The objective of this is to examine
and evaluate the effect and impact of urbanization on the promotion of sustainable

services, and environmental management, the research aims to assess the balance between
urban expansion and sustainability goals. It highlights the role of urban planning, housing
policies, and community participation in achieving a harmonious integration of urban
growth with conservation and social equity. The study also explores the negative impacts
of urbanization, such as environmental degradation and resource strain, proposing
recommendations for mitigating these effects while maximizing the positive contributions
of urbanization toward sustainable development.
