dc.description.abstract This study explores the multifaceted impact of sports events on the socio-economic and cultural livelihoods of the local population in Kigali. The research investigates government policies and 16 strategies designed to promote sports events, analyzes the contribution of sports tourism to the local economy, and examines the relationship between the development of sports infrastructure and community engagement. Through a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative research designs, data were gathered using stratified and purposive sampling techniques, with questionnaires, interviews, and documentation methods employed. The results of Cronbach's alpha reliability is 0.913, reveals that sports events in Kigali significantly boost local employment, enhance business incomes, and promote cultural exchange. Additionally, the development of sports infrastructure has been found to foster community pride, improve public facilities, and encourage healthier lifestyles. However, challenges such as funding limitations, access barriers, and transportation issues were identified as significant obstacles. The study recommends strategic actions including the enhancement of public-private partnerships for infrastructure funding, the implementation of comprehensive awareness campaigns to increase participation, and the improvement of transportation networks to facilitate access to sports venues. en_US
