dc.description.abstract This study has examined the interplay between decentralization and community participation in decision-making processes within Montserrado County, Liberia. The research assess the extent to which decentralization policies have empowered local communities, evaluate the role of local government institutions in promoting community engagement, and identify the challenges faced by residents in effectively participating in these processes and the strategies to overcome the challenges faced in enhancing the contribution of decentralization to community participation in decision-making processes in Montserrado County. The study adopted a mixed-methods approach, including quantitative and qualitative data collection from a sample of 400 respondents, the study employs descriptive statistical analysis and thematic analysis to interpret the findings. The results reveal that decentralization practices have significantly enhanced local decision-making, increased community influence in governance, and facilitated inclusive community participation. However, challenges such as inadequate representation, resource constraints, and socio-economic disparities hinder effective engagement. To address these challenges, the study proposes strategies including civic education programs, the establishment of inclusive decision-making bodies, strengthened feedback mechanisms, and partnerships with civil society organizations. These recommendations aim to enhance the contribution of decentralization to community participation in decision-making processes, ultimately fostering a more empowered and engaged citizenry in Montserrado County. en_US
