Land use consolidation program and Agricultural productivity.Poverty alleviation.Case of Kigoma Sector (2017-2024)

Abstract

This research entitled to evaluate the contribution of land use consolidation to increase productivity and alleviating the poverty in Huye District, case study needed to address Kigoma sector as the. The decline in soil fertility is the primary cause of the low yield, the implementation of new program is the best alternative to increase productivity of soil which has impacts on the production and has important effects on reducing the poverty. The research aims to evaluate and creates farmer awareness on the impacts of land use consolidation on production, negative effects on environment and provides additional information for decision makers to develop effective techniques land use consolidation implementation. The research objectives were the followings: to analyze the status and farmers perception to Land Use Consolidation implementation on the increase in agricultural productivity and alleviating poverty of beneficiaries in Kigoma Sector, to evaluate the contribution of Land Use Consolidation program implementation to socio-economic development of beneficiaries ,to find out the challenges faced by land use consolidation program implementers in Kigoma sector and to set out the strategies for addressing the challenges that hinder the land use consolidation program implantation in Kigoma sector. This research used quantitative approach and the descriptive design and inferential statistics as research design. The target population was 380 respondents and after the calculation of the sample size simple systematic and interval sampling were used to select 195 respondents. Questionnaires, face to face interviews and different documents were consulted as tools of data collection. The results indicated that within the use land use consolidation there is increase in yield, this was strongly agree at 100% .The results indicated that the program helped to reduce the poverty and motivate the farmers to do agriculture through the confidence they have in use of fertilisers and seeds at time when they are needed and this was strongly agree at 82%.The implementation of the program require to use of good methodologies and extension but this have to be done with respecting the advices from MINAGRI,RAB and other stakeholders in Agriculture.
