Abstract:
This dissertation examines the impact of youth empowerment programs in Eastern Equatoria State, South Sudan, particularly in the city of Torit. It highlights the necessity of such initiatives in addressing the challenges faced by young people in a post-conflict context, focusing on enhancing skills, knowledge, and community participation. Through a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys, the study assesses the effectiveness of these programs in fostering socio-economic development and resilience among youth.
Key findings indicate that while youth empowerment programs play a crucial role in improving employment opportunities and community engagement, they face significant challenges such as inadequate funding and lack of coordination among stakeholders. The research underscores the importance of a cohesive framework for program implementation, emphasizing the need for targeted strategies that align with the unique socio-economic dynamics of Eastern Equatoria.
The study also identifies a gap in localized research on youth empowerment initiatives, advocating for further empirical investigations to enhance the understanding of their roles and impacts. By integrating theoretical frameworks such as Positive Youth Development and Trauma-Informed Care, the research provides recommendations for developing more effective and sustainable empowerment programs that can support youth in their transition to adulthood and contribute to community resilience in South Sudan.
