Abstract:
This project shows how stabilized lime mud blocks are manufactured mostly in rural areas
would be developed through constructing strong and durable houses by use of stabilization
lime mud blocks. The government recognizes poor constructions as well as environment
damage whereby some people still live in flimsy houses due to un-stabilized mud blocks and
also cutting many trees for use in their building construction. The government of Rwanda
hustles hard to eliminate such poor houses to resist with erosion concerning to its vision as
well as conservation of the environment.
This project provides a crucial and economic way of constructing affordable and durable
houses made of stabilized mud blocks with lime. They consist of earth soil, water, amount of
lime acting as a binder.

This project focused on assessing the compressive strength properties of adding lime and in a
conventional lime mud block with the quantity lime at 10%, 15% of soil weight. In this
project the stabilized lime mud blocks were tested for 7 days, 14 days, and 28 days and also
the stabilized blocks tested as well. Respectively after 7 days, 14 days and 28 days of testing,
the stabilized blocks gave compressive strength of 2, 1 and 0.75 MPa respectively. The
optimum quantities of addition that can be used to get better compressive strength results
were identified.
Our project after testing after 7 days, 14 days and 28 days about the compressive strength of
2, 1, 0.75 MPa stabilized mud blocks with lime improves the strength of the block and
reduces cracking as well.
